AppaRattus

AppaRattus

Lindsey had the opportunity to work with JibiL Studios to create assets for the video game "AppaRattus." She created three distinct designs for the studio icon, game icon, and game logo.

Who is JibiL Studios?

Jibil Studios is an emerging indie game development studio founded by developer John Belak. Focused on creating immersive, character-driven experiences, the studio is currently developing its flagship title, “AppaRattus.” In this atmospheric indie adventure, players navigate sewers from the perspective of a rat, balancing exploration with task-based gameplay.
This icon and logo have a lot of different components that can be used in different contexts. The developer wanted an icon and logo that represent the studio. The full version of the design is used on the splash screen when the game is launched. The main use of this is to signal to the player that the game was initialized.

What is AppaRattus?

AppaRattus is an indie game where a player takes on the role of a rat to complete tasks in a sewer system. The developer asked for an icon to use for the Steam library and other icons. This asset is designed to represent the game and make it recognizable. The AppaRattus logo is used on the title screen and helps make the game more recognizable.

Mood Boards and Sketches

In order to get on the same page creatively, I made a mood board for each asset. After making a list of deliverables and talking to JibiL Studios about what they want the designs to look like and what the technical specifications are, I started the mood boards. After mood boards, I did a round of rapid sketching for each design concept.

JibiL Studios

Changes from draft to final:
– Different color palette.
– Adjusted the text shadow.
– Added a background.

AppaRattus Game Icon

Before I started the first draft of this icon, the developer asked that we change the figure in the center from a rat to a rat footprint. He was worried it would not scale well, and the details would be hard to see as a rat.

Changes from draft to final:
– Filled the middle hole.
– Adjusted the shape of the toes for the middle and right toe print.

AppaRattus Logo

Changes from draft to final:
– Adjusted the cut-off footprints on the right side so they would not be cut off.
– Adjusted the opacity to make the footprints disappear the further they travel.
